Royal Squad
Clemence, Jessie
Paeo IV sent Jessie Clemence at the age of six to enlist with the Royal squad, the only one to be selected out of the three sent. Closest friends with Terra, Sicylia, and Christie. A friend to all, Jessie's extroverted personality easily connected with the introverted of the squad. Her skill was discovered in marksmanship and she was placed with Hope's sniper team. Her injuries through the war were minor and Jessie tried to cope with survivors guilt after making it through the battle of Selstra. She welcomed the Serre Campaign and proudly served the princess.

Dueces, Jessica
Youngest of three, Jessica arrived with Terra Sagin from Sashe. Despite being on the same transport, the two were not friendly before the selection. Instead, Jessica was shunned by the Sagin palace escort, her family mere water harvesters, a main labor job on Sashe. Due to her background with water, she received rudimentary medical training, but it was discovered she did not have any talent in healing, negating her potential of leading a medical team in the squad.
Upon graduation, Jessica was placed within Ririe's fire team. Excellent friends with each of the squad members, Jessica surprisingly saw herself as an close sister to the quietest member of the squad, Terra Sagin. Introvert in her grief, she was pressed into a team leader position of the demolition team after Sicylia was killed. A promotion she attempted to refuse and pass to Aki, which happened before the war arrived on Aerion.
Shot twice in the leg at Meira, Jessica was recovering when the Viol attacked Selstra. Despite her injury, she survived a full day in the city before her tragic end at the teeth of a dragoon.

Dothan, Megan
Megan Dothan was born on Urrizen, a small farming village north of the capital. Her mother discovered the notice of eligible girls to try out and her family managed to get Megan on a ship in time to Aerion and the palace. Growing up in the palace out of her humble beginning, Megan always felt out of place but covered that up with a sharp tongue and a flirty wit.
At sixteen, she was put into the sniper team with Madison, and the two proved a dangerous duo when together. Megan received accolades on her marksmanship score, but never enough to unseat Hope and Adrian. After Savannah, Megan was assigned to protect the princess on her mission to the Quova ambassador for information regarding the attack against Aerion. She shadowed the heir inside with her team geared in Palace Guardian armor large building and then back to the embassy.
One of the first injured of the Royal squad, Megan received an injury from a dragoon on Quova and almost again during the fighting on Meira. One of the few survivors within the Royal squad at Selstra, Megan received a promotion to Sergeant, though she remained with the sniper fire team.

Ferris, Christie
Second youngest of the Royal squad, Christie was born in Selstra and raised in the shadow of the palace. Selected to attend the tryouts as a citizen of the kingdom, Christie proved herself in the tests and joined the Royal squad. Always quick to defend the princess and earned herself a coveted position within the princess' team. A fighter at heart, Christie pushed the limits and discovered her losses to the others stemmed from lower stamina, the others merely outlasting her initial attacks in training.
Adjustment came slow but in time before the war began. Fighting through each battle with little injury, Christie received her first serious blow at Meira and then saw her final stand at Selstra.

Fey, Hope
Born to Captain Jones Fey of the Selstra Defenders. Hope the oldest of the Royal squad. She was informed by her father that there was a call for girls of the same age as the Princess, Hope was accepted as a possible candidate.
With her father stationed in the capital, Hope met her closest friend on the way to the palace, Adrian Halis, and proposed that she join her at the palace for the review. Placed in the leadership role during training, Hope was held responsible for the victory of her team and was later accepted to the Royal squad.
Dedicating herself to her academic studies until she was fifteen, Hope was granted permission to begin training before the others and by the end of training, was selected as a leader of the sniper team. As one of the team leaders, Hope remained with the princess at nearly every single event the heir was to be at, though young, she was considered permanent security detail. The same year her professional career began at sixteen, her father retired from service and moved south near Cabmel, putting them outside of the conflict that came to Aerion during the war.
As most of the Royal squad, Hope maintained an athletic build through her career. In addition, her personal life remained wrapped into the squad's and before the war, Hope never attempted to be in a relationship. After the fighting on Savannah, Hope recognized the need to keep her team in line as her closest friend, Adrian, was turning into the wild card of the squad. In doing so, she and Adrian were able to create an outward image of hostility toward one another despite their close camaraderie. Fighting together through each battle of the war until Fate intervened in Selstra.

Fina, Kara
From Sashe, Kara was already on Aerion when the request for six-year-olds was announced. Her family believed she could distinguish herself to find a position within the squad and she volunteered. Throughout the years, she stood out and was placed with Janna Hawks Bravo team. Unfortunately, she also became known as being in the wrong place at the wrong time. She found herself on the ground and injured most of the time, which pushed her to train harder in hand-to-hand combat. After Savannah, Kara began to study explosives, realizing Dragoons were a real threat that could not be killed close up.
During the first battle of the war on Quova, Kara took a blow from a Dragoon and another during the fighting on Sashe. Recovering easily from the aid of Saesh, Kara avoided severe injury until her luck ran out, and Kara joined the other fallen in Selstra after taking a fatal blow from a Dragoon.
She never discovered her parents' fate after the fall of Sashe, and they never sought her out after Sashe was evacuated. Kara has no romantic interest, as her dedication to the squad took priority over other interests.

Halis, Adrian
The firstborn of three and the only girl, Adrian's parents were farmers in Selstra working the fields outside the walls. Despite the age difference, Adrian's best friend was Hope Fey, and though later she would deny it, Adrian idolized Hope. Hearing that her friend was attending the palace squad tryout, Adrian followed Hope, and when vouched for, she was accepted into the recruitment trials.
During one part of the trials, there was a skirmish held. Despite her side losing, Adrian demonstrated enough to overshadow other candidates and was selected for the squad despite being the youngest at five. Recognizing her young age, the palace selection pressed her to understand what she was volunteering for, and after acknowledging it, she was accepted into the Royal squad. As her education merged with the rest, her academia remained average while her hand-eye coordination and athleticism tested in the top percentile.
Hand-to-hand and melee training pushed her choice to learn to fight with two sabers, unique to the squad and Phalanx; Adrian continued to push herself to stand out and had the drive to be different than her peers. At fifteen, she led the squad in marksmanship. But as she was younger, remained aloof, and rarely a team player, Adrian was passed over for a leadership role which had not been a personal goal. Only the Princess and Hope Fey could get through to Halis, and with Hope's high testing in marksmanship, Adrian was placed into the sniper team under Hope.
She did graduate with the rest, her hard work paying off as she became personally selected to guard Sierra on diplomatic missions. After surviving Savannah, she accompanied Sierra to Quova on a diplomatic fact-finding mission where she was able to observe, without incident, Sierra's meeting with the Viol ambassador.
With the war beginning, Adrian began to feel the battles turning monotonous as the Viol failed to present her with a challenge. With the first loss on Sashe, Adrian became unleashed in vengeance with the rest of the Royal squad.
On Paeo IV, Adrian witnessed the death of their next loss, one of the few leaders in the squad that Adrian had grown to respect. This turned the victory bittersweet, and as she reflected on the war, Paeo was her favorite campaign against the Viol. Going into Selstra, Adrian was one of the few that made it relatively unscathed.
While downtime was welcome, Adrian missed the thrill and adrenaline rush the battle brought. Her closest friend, Hope, managed to get her off each ledge and back to the squad as more of the squad fell in the war. Personally, Adrian discovered an interest in another Raptor, Sergeant West. Though she never let on there was anything between the two and preferred to refer to him as a professional equal, she remained at his side for nearly every moment there was no training scheduled.
With the war landing on Urrizen, Adrian aided in the slaughter of the Viol after another leader fell to the Viol, and heading to Aerion, she adjusted her focus to the fight as the war claimed more of her sisters, including her closest, Hope. Only afterward did she allow herself to dwell on the loss and mourn for her near-sister.

Hawk, Janna
Born on Urrizen, Janna comes from an old family that had been a part of the founding of the original colony. Despite this, Janna joined Sierra at the palace after her family learned of the loss of the queen, hoping the new Princess would become friends with Janna.
Over the years, Janna became the doppelgänger to Princess Liandri. Daughter to a palace worker, her similar appearance and age attracted Sierra's attention and allowed Janna and Sierra to bond and become best friends. They were copying and mimicking one another, which was later encouraged as Janna began training as a decoy guard for the princess. However, after Janna and Sierra pranked the king; Janna was ordered to wear her hair short to be known apart from Sierra.
Regardless of her status with the Princess, Janna worked hard to remain second in command, though none of the Royal squad ever challenged her for the position. Early in her training, she met and pined after Sergeant Lhyle Darrien before his transfer to Quova. Her personal life never evolved as she found contentment and joy in serving the princess as second in command and her best friend.
At Savannah, Janna led half of the squad through the colony to discover dragoons had slaughtered everybody. Training became life after; learning what happened to the colony gnawed on her mind until the mystery concluded with the defense on Quova. Almost watching her near-sister fall twice sobered her focus by fighting on Sashe, and Janna rarely sought entertainment with the rest of the squad.
On Paeo IV, she watched a close sister fall to Glory. Despite only being the second of the squad to die, Janna never had a chance to mourn as the Viol took a city on Urrizen. Janna joined the assault to take back the city and never returned to Aerion.

Liandri, Sierra
At six AR (Aerion Rotations), Sierra completed her first level of education and was then introduced to different elements of her future job as the ruler of Aerion. Fascinated with the Phalanx, Sierra researched both the budding star fleet and the central Phalanx and determined that she wanted to serve in the Phalanx. After consulting with various officers, Sierra met with her father at six and requested her training.
Though difficult to secure her father's permission, he granted it under the terms that she complete her full education. Additionally, fifteen selected peers would train with her. Sierra agreed, and within that rotation, thirty girls, the same age, were brought to the palace for selection. Continuing her proactive stance, Sierra joined the thirty as if she were a candidate to gauge the others and hopefully earn a little respect for her efforts. Her participation was rewarded with loyalty from the fifteen. Through the next fifteen years, Sierra dedicated herself to the craft of leadership, combat, and her duties as the kingdom's future heir. At the training graduation, her eighteen-year-old self was officially given her squad command and assigned the Raptor Battalion as a Fifth squad. Even though they were a part of the Phalanx, they formally were within palace command and did not go on regular maneuvers with the Raptors unless Sierra felt the need to join them.
Sierra began to attend multiple state functions to continue positive relations with the large Viol Nation empire. Her squad was able to accompany her on every function as their secondary role of bodyguard.
In her second AR, the Royal squad deployed to the new colony Savannah to investigate communications loss. Dragoons wiped it out with all three hundred civilians dead and the squad of Defenders slaughtered. With further investigation, they discovered two dragoons had been responsible. Aerion never found another dragoon on the planet, but the evidence never appeared regarding who brought them to the planet. For three revolutions, Sierra acclimated into the battalion until the first Viol assault on Aerion, which saw the destruction of the shield generator protecting the planet.
After the destruction of the generator, Sierra joined the first war council and pleaded with her father to seriously take the threat and demand the Viol Nations take action against any possible element responsible for the attack. Even with her father's slow movement, Sierra stepped up her training with the Raptor Battalion as she believed a war was close and the Phalanx would need her on the front lines.
Despite the evidence, it took a few more Rotations until the conflict broke out in earnest. With the Raptors on patrol to Terush, Sierra self-deployed to Quova. Her squad was successful in their mission to pull the diplomatic corps off the planet despite the losses suffered to the Quova battalion. It was one of her early experiences with war casualties.
Returning from Quova, she discovered that the Raptor battalion was nearly wiped out at Terush and required her squad to acquire the second squad's two survivors. Jake Murose received the promotion to the battalion commander. Sierra and the Royal squad joined the fighting on Serre to squash the first attempt of a Viol foothold and again returned to Serre with the second invasion that saw the destruction of south and north cities of Serre. During the final assault, the Viol managed to capture a civilian transport which Sierra led her squad to take back.
After the events on Sashe, Sierra and her squad rejoin the Raptors on Paeo IV, hitting critical targets that open a channel for the newly developed Strafer bombers. With the loss of another in her squad, Sierra turns to her battalion commander, Jake Murose, for advice. She opens up to the Captain after the fall of another squad member on Urrizen. Sierra did not have time to mourn her best friend's loss as the Viol chose to land on Aerion and take Meira and advance against Selstra.
Before the assault began against Selstra, Sierra shares a kiss with Jake that the squad discovers and insists on her pursuit of the Captain. The Viol attack came the next morning, and the two fought together and apart until the end of the battle.

Malefic, Amanda
Born on Erua, parents were both in the Erua Defenders Brigade. After selection at six, Amanda became interested in fitness and strength-building. Nearly the same height as Hope at graduation, Amanda was picked to carry any extra equipment used for a mission as she was the strongest of the squad. When the war began, Amanda was wounded on Quova but could evacuate with the rest of the squad. Patched up quickly, she fought in the Sashe Skirmish, where she was cut across the forehead during the melee fighting.
Her personal break came with news of Erua falling to the Viol. Both parents fell in battle, and then Amanda discovered that all three of her siblings failed to escape the slaughter.
Dedicating herself to the battle completely, she managed the last two battles on Sashe before aiding in recovering a fallen sister on Paeo IV.
Urrizen saw the death of her team leader, and with the arrival of Sergeant Cordero to Delta team, Amanda was moved there to aid Carmen during the battle of Meira. Surrounded by her only family, Amanda entered the Battle of Selstra, ready to fight for those around her, knowing it could be her last battle with all of them.

Nadres, Madison
Selected at the age of six, Madison is the daughter of a battalion captain within the Erua Defenders. A representative of Erua, Madison understood the honor of her selection and determined every day to prove it. Despite not achieving as team leader, Madison joined the sniper team but later became reassigned to Janna's Bravo Team. Megan Dothan was her closest friend within the squad, and the two aspired to prank those unaware of their shenanigans.
Madison accompanied Princess Liandri to the Quova Embassy before the war, proving she could remain professional while protecting the heir. She narrowly avoided death during the battle of Quova by a dragoon, and then again at Meira after getting caught by a Unias. After getting clear of the base, Madison transferred to Pyaun to receive medical treatment for her arm after Sergeant Cordero managed to treat her on the battlefield. Megan remained on Pyaun during the fighting on Selstra and learned the last of those lost in the capital. Her injury forced the complete amputation of her right arm, though she returned to the Royal squad and back into the sniper team with her best friend, Megan Dothan.

Daughter of Admiral Mark Ririe, Sycilia was accepted into training with the princess and the others at the age of six. Same age as the princess and stood out among her peers as a leader and one that the others respected.
Sycilia became the leader of the demolition team at the age of sixteen. Terra, Jessica, and Aki, the three others of her team all fit exceptionally well with personalities that matched. One of her closest friends was the princess and another was Janna as the two were also the leadership of the squad and they were constantly in communication with one another. She remained aloof from the rest of the squad, personally, distancing herself as she had seen her father do during his time with the fleet. After the war began, she fought to keep the princess alive and manage to save Sierra twice during the battles before Sycilia herself fell on Paeo.

Roswel, Erin
Erin was born on Aerion a year too late to be considered for joining the Royal squad as her family was connected with the royal family and led the governing on the second continent of Haveo. She joined the Phalanx at sixteen, a year before her cousin Anna. Though her family was not directly in line for the throne, they were not strangers to the palace and Erin was a participant in several skirmishes during her training.
Her first assignment was with the Raptor battalion and first battle was Terush. During the battle, she found her cousin and the two managed to survive through the worst to make it back to Aerion. Enlisting with the Royal squad saw Erin fighting with the princess through the thickest of the war and she managed to make it back to Selstra where she fought to her end in the capital with her cousin.

Rowell, Samantha
Born on Paeo IV, Samantha was sent to Aerion for the selection trials at the age of six. She was selected and created a close bond with Sierra and Janna. It was a difficult choice for Sierra to select Samantha for the role of communications officer to avoid showing favoritism, but Samantha's multitasking proved superior to the rest of the squad, and she was chosen to be third in the squad.
Teamed with Alison Sid, Samantha learned everything she could about the technologies deployed with Knights and how to maintain it all in the field. At the start of the war, Samantha was promoted to Lieutenant so that she was ranked enough to get attention from the other side of the comms.
One of the few survivors of the Royal squad, Samantha found little time to mourn the friends who fell, Janna, being her closest. Her time was consumed by duties, and her personal life felt non-existent regardless of the furlough provided by the Phalanx.

Sagin, Terra
Daughter of Governor Sagin of Sashe, Terra was initially accepted into the Royal squad as a political appointment. Despite the politics behind her appointment, Terra held her own during the recruitment trials and achieved acceptance on her own. She was quiet and almost thought a mute, but it was only to her closest friends that eventually broke her out of her shell. During the fighting on Serre, she came to the conclusion that the war was going to consume the entire human kingdom and broke from her introverted self. It was short lived however, as during the final battle, she was brought down on the bridge of a Civilian refugee ship that the Royal squad was attempting to retake.
Within her family, Terra was considered with high regard, though her father viewed her as a tool for the family to elevate their status within the kingdom and achieve the independence rule that her father sought. Despite this outlook on her position, Terra refused to buckle to her father's pressure of elevating the family status.

Sid, Alison
Born south of Cabmel, Alison was sent north to the capital, hoping to make the roster and serve with the Princess. Successful in her endeavor, Alison proved to be mischievous yet cautious as she continued to doubt her position among the higher-status members of the squad. Because of this, her closest bond remained solid throughout the war with Adrian Halis, another member of Aerion from lower status.
After the war began, Alison knew that her position with Sierra's team required her to protect the princess whenever it was possible, and she managed to save the princess several times from stray Viol. Surviving through each battle, Alison emerged from almost every single engagement unscathed outside of combat fatigue and bruising. Alison proved her skill and abilities within the squad and cemented her legacy within the Elite Knights.
With the loss of Terra before Selstra, and two other exemplary leaders who fell, she questioned her own mortality within the war. She prepared herself, but her continued survival proved in her mind that the fight must be finished.
Personally, Alison remained out of any relationship as her focus was with the squad.

Born on Aerion but raised on Terush when her family joined the first wave of colonists on the planet. Aki returned to Aerion hoping to be the Terush representative on the Royal squad. After selection, she excelled in mathematics and demonstrated a penchant for destruction. Ushered into Ririe's demolition team Aki developed close friendships with Sicylia and Adrian Halis. After hearing about the destruction of Terush and the loss of her family, Aki realized that her real family had become her sisters of the Royal squad. One of the few to begin a relationship before the war, Aki broke it off with the man because of her task with the Royal squad and the protection for the princess.
When Sergeant Ririe was killed in action, Jessica Deuces became the team leader rather than Aki. Jessica passed on the promotion, and Aki stepped into the team leader position. Aki became the sole survivor of the original fire team after a dragoon killed Jessica. Aki rebuilt her fire team the following year and continued with the Raptors through the Serre campaign.

Selstra native, James chose to join the Phalanx at the standard age of sixteen. Trained and passed, he was tracked into leadership. Surviving the first engagement on Quova, James was placed into Third brigade and deployed to Erua during the Viol assault there. Wounded, he was taken out of the Phalanx and began training Defenders in Selstra. By the time the Viol landed outside of Selstra, James was combat ready with his squad and led his squad against the first transport shot down over the capital.
Deployed to the wall, James fought the invaders and survived the Black Hole bomb. He became the head of his battalion after his captain was killed and James retreated with the survivors to Outpost 2 during a lull in the fighting. On the second day, James helped stop the advance there until reinforcements arrived and relieved him of the defense. During the fight he was wounded in his right side, but survived the transfer to the moon.
Carmen Cordero
Carmen Cordero, born in a small village outside of Cabmel (Aerion). Carmen volunteered to join the Phalanx at the standard age of sixteen rather than continue on her family's farm as her other siblings. Trained as a medic, Carmen transferred to her first battalion on Erua at the age of twenty; five years before the Viol came to Erua.
A survivor of Erua, Carmen and the few of her brigade to survive were mixed with the Second battalion of Sixth brigade. She was involved with several minor skirmishes against the Viol until the Evacuation of Paeo IV. When the Viol invaded the capital, Carmen's battalion joined the resistance and after Carmen's squad leader was killed in action, Carmen took command.
After Paeo IV, Carmen was transferred to the Raptor battalion reserve with several others to allow them time to recover. Her time in the reserve was short-lived and Carmen received command of Bravo team within the Royal squad, the first outsider to command a fireteam. The only of the Royal squad to be trained as a medic, Carmen brought her fireteam up to speed through the fighting in Meira and Selstra, and provided a seamless transition and acceptance into the squad.

Sara Geneas is from Sashe. Daughter of a Sashe water plant manager, she joined the Sashe Defenders at sixteen and trained two years before signing an option to join the Phalanx and see more of the galaxy. After completing her training, her aptitude and demeanor proved that she had leadership potential, and was promoted to a team leader. Her first tour of duty saw her on Urrizen before receiving a promotion to Lieutenant and transferring to Quova to command a squad.
She began to court another Lieutenant of the battalion on Quova, Lhyle Darrien and within a year, they married.
Tensions increased between humans and the Viol Nations, the embassy saw Princess Sierra Liandri arrive to meet with the Viol representatives. Sara had been off duty and it was not until a scheduled training exercise later that she met Sierra and the rest of the Royal squad. Her professionalism displayed to the heir led to the inclusivity of using the princess' first name until the first conflict with the Viol. During the evacuation of Quova, Sara's squad secured the transport as the rest of the Knights evacuated until the Princess called for support. Without hesitation, Sara led a fireteam into the battle and saved the princess from a Dragoon. The cost of her actions led to a mortal wound and she died from her wounds on the way back to the Frigate before medial attention could save her.

There was no evidence discovered and his unit was broken down, with his assignment taking him to the Raptor battalion as a team leader. A promotion later had him in command of Fourth squad while Jake Murose was given Third squad. Little happened until the beginning of the war where the battalion was called to Terush to investigate the loss of contact with the colony.
Discovering Terush half destroyed, the battalion landed, attempted to fight back against the Viol and look for survivors. After the battalion captain was killed, Gabriel turned command of the battalion to Jake, despite the command falling to Gabe. During the reformation of the battalion, there was little discussion about his place with Fourth squad and he preferred Jake as the battalion commander.
During the course of the war, Gabriel successfully led the Raptor squad with minimal casualties, replacing the few that were needed until Selstra where his squad was cut in half before the battalion was pulled back to the palace. Gabriel never made it back to the palace having been hit while boarding the Raptor's transport.

Monody, Richard
Born on Urrizen. Joined the Phalanx at the age of eighteen and was stationed at Selstra where he served as a Defender and then a Guardian in the palace by the age of twenty. Approached by the daughter of the king when she was six with questions about the Phalanx. His answers prompted her to choose the Phalanx as her career choice and the king 'retaliated' by promoting Monody to Colonel and making him in charge of her training.
Her success was his own and at Sierra's sixteenth year celebration, he was promoted to General of the Phalanx, First Brigade. Overseeing the development of the Phalanx, Monody was able to craft the leaders he wanted to see protecting the kingdom and personally recommended Jake Murose to a squad position within Fourth battalion.
Despite his age, he remained combat effective at the start of the war though his battalion stayed back as the command element for most of the battles. When the Viol invaded Urrizen, Monody joined the air assault there and joined the Raptors at the gate before dispersing them into the city. Receiving word the Viol were on Aerion, Monody immediately recalled all persons to transports and bombed the city to cleanse the Viol off Urrizen.
Monody continued to lead from the front during the battle of Meira and then went to the palace after the Viol changed directions again to Selstra. After the city was won, Monody recommended Jake Murose for promotion to head the Elite Knight element of Fourth and Second battalions ... *book two*

He survived Sashe and transferred again to Third brigade as the Viol began to attack Paeo IV. Single handedly, Alexander cleared an enemy position that had his squad pinned down.

Having severed in the Fusion Corps research division, she knew of the research involved with captured ships and personally, wanted to secure the captured freighter that had been used by the Viol Nations before the start of the war. Jonathan led his squadron through several battles, the first notable being the Assault on Quova and witnessing the destructive power of the Knighthood. During the landing on Aerion, Jonathan flew cover for the First Brigade as they landed outside Meira before he was shot down when his squadron became ambushed on their way to Selstra.

During the early years after first contact, Mark was questioned by the six-year-old princess, Sierra Liandri, on the differences between the Phalanx branches. Sagin, Cornelius
Born on Aerion, Sagin grew up in the shadow of the palace. As a freight officer, he oversaw the shipping and receiving of food from Urrizen and gained the notice of the King during a large dispute with the shipping captains and the persons he supervised. At the same time, there was a call for colonists to the world, Sashe. Being at the top of the list for his experience in shipping, the king recognized his knowledge of shipping would benefit the new colony and Cornelius was chosen to administer the colony until a time a proper governor could be found.
His management proceeded without incident and Sagin became popular among the colonists to the point that they petitioned the king for his permanent placement as colony Governor.
His oldest daughter, Terra, was born the same year as the princess and at six, the request of young girls for training with the princess arrived on Sashe and Sagin sent his daughter to enlist. Cornelius knew that she would be picked due to his position and was not disappointed, especially as she won her position by merit rather than being his daughter. Proudly, he followed her growth, though distant as he did not want to interfere. After the war began, Sashe became one of the first targets of the Viol, as a small party landed and attempted to establish a secret foothold. Sagin dispatched a battalion of his Defenders that successfully destroyed the enemy, and he bragged loudly to the king about his people and their ability to fight.
It was not until later in the war that the Viol returned with a full invasion that led to the sacking of Saaer and Sequire. When the Viol turned to invade the capitol, Sashe, and his people held for two days before the king ordered a withdrawal. Incensed, Cornelius refused until he discovered his daughter was killed protecting his people fleeing the city. Regardless of his hatred toward the king, he accepted the position of "refugee overseer" until such a time he could return to Sashe.
Vellis, Seryn
Seryn Vellis, born Seryn Murose, grew up north of Selstra, the older of two children. With the growth of the colonies, her parents had decided to enlist with Aerion North's shipping guild and freight goods between the colonies. Seryn focused on her education and administrative work instead of the flying, though her skill in the cockpit was more than adequate to pass for her license. When her parents vanished during a cargo run to Sashe, Seryn inherited the business and managed to secure a new freighter and contracts.
The war began and shipping became heavily regulated for the protection of the civilian fleets. During her travels, she met her husband, John Vellis and after marrying, she was back to administrative work during her first pregnancy and again with her second child, born just before the battle of Selstra. Though heavily involved with the shipping guild, Seryn followed close the political developments which came after Selstra was saved...(book three)
